SoftEd

CompassFEM+SoftEd (shortly SoftEd) is an educational software developed by CIMNE and CompassIs, based on both RamSeries software and GiD. It allows the students to initiate activities of analysis in engineering problems and to become familiar with the use of professional tools. This is achieved allowing the student to develop a series of tasks proposed in an exercise within an interactive media and with the support of an adequate theoretical framework.

"Initial information" is the first window in SoftEd.

In this window, the program shows some changes in the CompassFEM interface and includes some recommendations.

The second one is "Library".

In this window, the program shows a list with exercises built-in SoftEd.

When you want to work in CompassFEM (standard mode) you must close Library window

without select any exercise, then SoftEd allows you to use all CompassFem's tools with password restrictions.

To return a SoftEd and select a exercise from CompassFEM (standard mode) you must select:

And choose one exercise from "Library" window.

Then SoftEd window will be show in the screen.

The SoftEd window has 4 areas:

  • Title: Is in the window's upper region and shows the name of current exercise. Click over this zone to toggle between floating and inner window.

  • Status: Include buttons arranged in vertical form, each button correspond to a page in the exercise. The color code for each button is: light blue for current page and dark blue for past pages. For change to another page click another button.

  • Contents: Shows the information contained in an exercise's page. This information include instructions to realize some task. The links are coloured in blue and it shows additional or specialised information.

  • Buttons: In the window's bottom region, includes four buttons, two (arrows) for to go to next page or back to previous page in the exercise, one button to view videos (when is enable) and one to do the task following the instructions in the page.

Password

This version comes with a evaluation password with following restrictions:

  • Drawing models : max 1000 nodes and 25 surfaces.
  • Calculate : max 10 nodes for beam elements and 250 nodes for surfaces.

The evaluation password is enough to follow the exercises built-in SoftEd, but if you need more complexity, you must get a trial password (30 days).

Exercises

Now SoftEd has the following exercises built-in (in spanish):

  • Análisis de una viga aplicando el cálculo matricial de estructuras de barras
  • Ejercicio de barras articuladas aplicando el cálculo matricial de estructuras de barras
  • Análisis de un pórtico aplicando el cálculo matricial de estructuras de barras
  • Análisis de una presa (deformación plana) cuando solo se considera el peso propio del material.
  • Análisis de una viga en voladizo (3D).

Password

This versión comes with a evaluation password with following restrictions:

need more complexity, you must get a trial password (30 days) with the computer name

and sysinfo.

  • You can get the computer name and sysinfo from:

  • Fill the required information (with module: RamSeries version 6) in the Passwords.

  • Then write your trial password in the menu option:

NOTE: On Windows7 operative system could be necessary to execute the software as Administrator to be able to introduce its password successfully. In this way, open the contextual menu (right mouse button) over SoftEd execution icon and choose "Execute as administrator". Then running it as an administrator can give the program the permission it needs to run properly.
